hail damage

I visited my town garden this morning and found plants damaged from a severe hail storm we had on Thursday. Yoiks!

People say it was the worst storm they can remember: lightning and hail the size of nickels and flooding. During the afternoon, we were attacked several times, not just once.

It was worse downtown. Where I am, several miles out of town, it was memorable, but my garden at home didn't get nearly the damage as the one in town.

I wonder what it would be like to be totally dependent on growing your own food? Would anyone survive in this day and age?
